GanttProject is a cross-platform desktop application developed by BarD Software s.r.o. that offers open-source project scheduling and resource management capabilities without licensing fees. Designed for project managers, freelancers, and small teams who need practical planning tools without the cost or complexity of enterprise suites, the program presents tasks in a hierarchical tree, links them through finish-to-start, start-to-start, finish-to-finish, and start-to-finish dependencies, and visualizes the resulting schedule on a drag-and-drop Gantt chart that can optionally be rendered as a PERT diagram for critical-path analysis. Milestones and baselines can be inserted to mark major deliverables and to compare current versus original timelines, while a dedicated resource load chart highlights overallocation issues across human and material resources. Cost accounting is built in: fixed, per-use, and hourly rates assigned to tasks and resources are rolled up automatically to produce budget snapshots. When reporting is required, the workspace can be exported to PDF for stakeholder briefings, to HTML for intranet posting, or to PNG for slide embedding, and the same data can be synchronized bidirectionally with Microsoft Project, Excel, and other spreadsheet formats to preserve legacy workflows. Remote collaboration is possible through standard WebDAV shares or through the optional GanttProject Cloud subscription service that adds real-time multi-user editing, storage, and backup.
